KENTUCKY SOCIETY OF  NATURAL HISTORY
GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH GRANT IN THE FIELDS OF
NATURAL HISTORY/BIODIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY

K.S.N.H. is pleased to announce the offering of a funding source to help support natural history/biodiversity knowledge in Kentucky. A grant of $500 will be available for field-based natural history/biodiversity projects, which contribute to the knowledge of Kentucky's natural communities. The grant will be awarded to a student attending a Kentucky college or university graduate school during the 1999-2000 school year. The grant may be used to pay for tuition, books, travel and living expenses, consumable supplies, and other materials and expenses. The grant may not be used to pay time or labor for any party. The successful applicant will be notified by the end of July, 1999.

Proposals will be reviewed by the K.S.N.H. Grant Committee.

Proposal must include:

1. A current Curriculum Vitae, detailing course and work background.
2. A proposal (not to exceed two single-spaced typed pages)
describing the
proposed research and the role the grant would play inthe research.
3. An itemized budget.
4. Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the
    applicant's major professor or
project director (with telephone number
and/or e-mail).

Applicants are encouraged to become members of K.S.N.H., but membership is not required to be awarded a grant. The grant recipient is expected to provide K.S.N.H. with a short summary of the funded research within one year of receiving the grant. The grant recipient is also expected to present his/her work at either a spring or fall conference of the Kentucky Society of Natural History. Other presentations at other meetings, such as the annual Kentucky Academy of Sciences meeting, is also encouraged.

Proposals may be submitted at any time. To be considered for the July 31, 1999, award date, all materials must be received by July 1, 1999. Any proposals received after that date will be held and considered for the 2000-2001 disbursement.
